Sage’s Morgan Dunn Named To NFCA Division III All-America Team

 SALEM, VA - The Sage College's senior softball player Morgan Dunn (Cohoes, NY/Cohoes) was named to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Division III All-America Third-Team at third base in conjunction with the 2016 Division III College World Series Banquet on Wednesday evening.

Dunn becomes the first female student-athlete and just the second Sage student-athlete to be named an All-American. This honor comes just one week after being named to the 2016 NFCA Division III Northeast Region First-Team, another Sage first.

Head coach Jamie Brown said of Dunn, "The team and I are so unbelievably proud of Morgan and what she was able to accomplish this season." Brown added, "She was pivotal in the success of our program.  Her stats this season were remarkable and absolutely deserving of being named an All-American.  We could not have asked for a better person to represent our first All-American honor in our program's history.  She will definitely go down as one of the best players we have ever had here at Sage."

Dunn, a First-Team Skyline Conference selection, was also named the 2016 Skyline Conference Softball Player of the Year. On 136 at-bats, the third baseman recorded 64 hits, 50 RBI's, 42 runs, 20 doubles, nine home runs, three stolen bases and one triple as a 42-game starter. Sage capped the year as the 2016 Skyline Conference runner-up, while Dunn added a .471 average. She was ranked sixth in Sage's single-season record book and had a .831 slugging percentage, while connecting for 22 multiple-hit games this spring, she earned two Skyline conference Player of the Week citations. As a junior, Dunn earned Skyline Conference Second-Team honors in her first year with the program.

The senior currently ranks nationally in Division III in doubles (9th), doubles per game (12th, 0.5) and RBI's (18th). She is currently ranked in 11 categories in the Top 100 with the release of the latest NCAA Division III statistics and is among the Top 25 in five categories. Dunn led the Skyline Conference in runs, hits, RBI's, doubles, home runs and total bases (113). The Cohoes native has permanently etched her name in the Sage record books after only two seasons with the Gators. Dunn stands first in single-season doubles (1st, 20), single-season home runs (1st, nine), single-season RBI's (1st, 51), single-season hits (1st 64), , while ranking in career batting average (2nd, .428), single-season runs (4th, 42), career home runs (4th, 14), career RBI's (4th, 84) and career doubles (5th, 30).

Over the course of the 2016 season, Sage posted a record of 27-15, while also collecting a school-record 16-game win streak as well. The Gators went 11-1 at home in 2016 and earned the No. 2 seed in the Skyline Conference Tournament, falling in the championship game after producing a 14-4 record in the Skyline Conference this season.
