Sage's Laughlin Named Gator of the Year in Softball

ALBANY, NY –The Sage College's department of athletics gathered to recognize and honor the outstanding performances of the 2015-2016 year with the naming of the athletic award winners for the 15 varsity athletic teams. In addition to awarding the Gator Award, for the Most Outstanding Player, the department also named the 2015-2016 Female and Male Athletes of the Year, the Dean Sharon Robinson Senior Male and Female Scholar-Athletes of the Year, which is given to the senior student-athlete with the highest overall grade point average, and the Aggie Stillman Perseverance Award.

The Sage Colleges' softball competitor, senior performer Courtney Laughlin (Cohoes, NY/Cohoes) was named the Gator of the Year.

Head coach Jamie Brown said of Laughlin, "Courtney was definitely deserving of this year's softball Gator Award.  She not only had to play a position all season that was not her natural position, but she played it all season with a significant injury.  She never complained and was constantly cheering on the pitchers from behind the plate.  She worked extremely hard all year round, and had her best season of her career here at Sage."

Laughlin found herself at the catcher's position for all 42 of Sage's games. The graduate student had a career high season with 40 hits, 22 runs, 20 RBI's, six doubles and two stolen bases with a .325 batting average. Laughlin led the Skyline in runners caught stealing with 10.

Laughlin majored in health sciences in undergraduate at Sage, and has earned spots on the Sage Dean's List, Sage Scholar-Athlete-Team and the Skyline Scholar-Athlete Team. In addition, Laughlin is talented in the arts having been in eight musical productions and a pair of plays. She is currently a nutrition graduate student and hopes to obtain a second graduate degree in Physical Therapy.
