Sage Splits with Mount Saint Vincent

OLD WESTBURY, NY – The Sage Gators split with the Dolphins of Mount Saint Vincent Saturday afternoon with a 6-2 win and an 8-7 loss in the nightcap.

In game one, Sage got off to an early lead in the top of the first with Allison Ford (Mechanicville, NY/Mechanicville) scored on a Morgan Dunn (Cohoes, NY/Cohoes) single. Dunn put the Gators up 2-0 when Dunn scored on a Dolphin error.

Mount Saint Vincent tied the score 2-2 in the bottom of the first when Danielle Maffei homered and Rachel Heizer scored on a Kathryn Dalton.

Sage responded in the top of the second when Courtney Laughlin (Cohoes, NY/Cohoes) scored on a Ford sacrifice fly. The Gators went up 5-2 in the top of the fifth when Katy Rimawi (Ballston Spa, NY/Ballston Spa) and Dunn scored on RBI's from Dunn and Jessica Adams (Nassau, NY/Columbia ), respectively.

In the top of the seventh, Sage extended its lead to 6-2 when Alexa Silk (Freehold, NY/ Greenville) scored on an error.

Sage's Katie Kovage (Hoosick Falls, NY/Hoosick Falls Central) (9-2) earned the 6-2 win on a complete-game, five strikeout error. Heizer (6-7) picked up the loss with seven K's.

In game two, Heizer and Dalton scored on a Kierstyn Boutdeau double to go up 2-0 in the bottom of the second. They extended their lead to 4-0 when Maffei and Heizer scored on Heizer and Dalton RBI's, respectively, in the bottom of the third.

Sage's Jennifer Onwe (Tarrytown, NY/Sleepy Hollow) broke the shutout in the top of the fifth with a solo home run. The Gators added another two runs in the top of the sixth when Dunn and Aanisah Taylor (Great Barrington, MA/Monument Mountain Regional) scored Dunn and Laughlin RBI's.

With the score tied 4-4, Kiersten Duncan (Millerton, NY/Taconic Hills) hit a three-run homer in the top of the seventh to go up 7-4.

In the bottom of the seventh, Joann Guerra and Deanna Nardi cut the Sage lead down to 7-6 off a Katie Moos RBI double. The Dolphins came back and won 8-7 off a Dalton walk-off double.

Dalton (7-3) was credited with the win while Sage's Lindsay Brace (Moriah, NY/Moriah Central) (10-5) picked up the loss.

The Gators travel to St. Joseph's-Long Island tomorrow for their final Skyline doubleheader. The first game is set to begin at noon.
