Softball Team Sweeps St. Joseph’s-Brooklyn

BROOKLYN – Katie Kovage (Hoosick Falls, NY/Hoosick Falls Central) recorded two wins and a shutout as Sage swept St. Joseph's (Brooklyn) 14-0 (five innings) and 14-3 (five innings).

In game one, Morgan Dunn (Cohoes, NY/Cohoes) put the Gators up 1-0 with a solo homerun to right center in the top of the first.

The Gators went on a run in the top of the third to go up 10-0. Sage (7-7, 4-0 Skyline) saw RBI's from Dunn, Kovage, Jenn Onwe (Tarrytown, NY/Sleepy Hollow), Kiersten Duncan (Millerton, NY/Taconic Hills), Allison Ford (Mechanicville, NY/Mechanicville) and Katy Rimawi (Ballston Spa, NY/Ballston Spa).

In the top of the fourth, Onwe hit a three-run homer to left center to put the Gators up 13-0. Ford tacked on Sage's 14th run on a dropped fly ball.

Sage was led on offense by Onwe (2-3, homerun, four RBI's, two runs), Dunn (3-4, homerun, three RBI's, two runs) and Rimawi (3-4, two RBI's, two runs) while St. Joseph's (0-4, 0-4 Skyline) was led by Kristin Ferrigno (2-2) and Theresa Armano (2-2).

Kovage was credited with the win with four strikeouts while Armano (0-3) picked up the loss.

In game two, RBI's from Dunn, Kovage and Courtney Laughlin put the Gators up 3-0 in the top of the first. The Bears responded with RBI doubles from Armno and Ferrigno to make the score 5-2 going into the second inning.

Sage respond with an RBI double from Dunn and a Kovage RBI single to go up 7-2 in the top of the second. The Gators tacked on three more runs in the top of the third with RBI's from Rimawi, Kovage and Jessica Adams (Nassau, NY/Columbia) to go up 10-2.

In the top of the fourth, RBI's from Duncan, Ford, Rimawi and Dunn put the Gators up 14-2. St. Joseph's was able to plate Samantha Simon off a Ferrigno RBI, but it wouldn't be enough to force a sixth inning.

Kovage (3-0) was credited with the win on five strikeouts while Jamilynn McGowan (0-1) picked up the loss.

Sage was led on offense by Dunn (3-3, homerun, four RBI's four runs), Kovage (3-3, three RBI's, one run) and Rimawi (2-4, three RBI's, three runs) while St. Joseph's was led by Ferrigno (1-3, two RBI's), Simon (2-3, two runs) and Armano(2-3, one RBI, one run).

Dunn leads the team with five home runs on the year, elevating her career resume to include 10 homers, which ranks No. 6 all-time at Sage. Kovage continues to add to her Sage career win total, as she now 32 victories in the circle, while fanning 185 batters, which is second best at Sage.

Sunday's second win marked the 99th career win at Sage for head coach Jamie Brown, who is in her fifth season with the Gators.

Sage currently sits in first place in the Skyline Conference with a perfect 4-0 league record. The Gators look to extend their four-game win streak on the road at Skidmore College on Sat., Mar. 26 at 1 p.m. in a non-conference twinbill.
