Gators Beat Ursinus 8-7 for First Win, but Fall to St. Mary’s (Ind.) 6-5

CLERMONT, Fl. – Morgan Dunn (Cohoes, NY/Cohoes) batted an impressive .714 with four RBI's as Sage split with Ursinus (8-7 win) and St. Mary's (Ind.) (6-5 loss).

In game one with Ursinus (4-4), Sage was the first team on the board when Dunn hit an RBI single to center field to put the Gators up 1-0 after one inning.

After the Bears plated five runs in the top of the second, Sage responded when Jen Onwe (Tarrytown, NY/Sleepy Hollow) scored on a throwing error. The Gators chiseled the lead down to 5-4 in the bottom of the fourth when Jessica Adams (Nassau, NY/Columbia) and Courtney Laughlin (Cohoes, NY/Cohoes) scored off singles from Onwe and Allison Ford (Mechanicville, NY/Mechanicville).

Ursinus responded to Sage's rally with two runs of their own to go up 7-4 in the top of the fifth. Sage replied to the Bears' two runs with two of their own by Alexa Silk (Freehold, NY/Greenville) and Dunn. Ford tied the game 7-7 in the bottom of the sixth when she scored on a throwing error by Ursinus. Dunn then plated Silk and the go-ahead run with a single to left field.

Sage pitcher Lindsay Brace (Moriah, NY/Moriah Central) sealed the victory for the Gators in the top of the seventh when they retired the side for the 8-7 win.

The Gators were led on offense by Dunn (3-4, two RBI's, one run), Onwe (1-2, two RBI's, one run) and Ford (2-4, one RBI, one run) while Ursinus was led by Zoe Heinke (2-4, two RBI's), Sarah Snider Leonhauser (2-3, two runs) and Bridget Winay (1-4, two RBI's).

Brace picked up her first win of the season while Winay (0-1) was credited with the loss.

In game two with St. Mary's (Ind.) (7-1), Sage got off to the early lead when Silk and Katy Rimawi (Ballston Spa, NY/Ballston Spa) scored on a Dunn triple to right center.

The Belles worked over the next two innings to tie the game 2-2 going into the fourth inning.

In the top of the fifth, Silk stroked an RBI single to center field to put the Gators up by one. A RBI single from Kiersten Duncan (Millerton, NY/Taconic Hills) and an Adams sacrifice fly plated two more runs to put Sage up 5-2.

St. Mary's rallied in the bottom of the sixth to tie the score 5-5 until a Kayla Chapman sacrifice fly put what proved to be the winning run across the plate.

Sage was led offensively by Dunn (2-3, two RBI's one run) and Silk (3-4, two runs, one RBI) while the Belles were led by Caitlyn Migawa (1-4, two RBI's), Makenzie Duncan (3-3, two runs, one RBI) and Jamie Young (3-4, one run).

Mary Green picked up her first win for the season while Brace (1-2) picked up the loss.

Sage moves to 1-5 with games against Manhattanville and Thiel tomorrow at 9 a.m. and 11 a.m.
