Sage falls in Skyline openers to FSC

Farmingdale, NY –The Sage College's softball team finally played a pair of games since returning from their 2015 spring training trip on Monday afternoon as they travelled to Farmingdale State College for a pair of Skyline Conference contests. The host Rams took the first game 4-3 in eight innings and picked up a win in the second game that was called due to darkness in the sixth winning, 6-4.

Sage falls to 4-8 overall and 0-2 in the Skyline Conference, while FSC is now 7-5 overall and 2-0 in the league. Sage returns to action for the Gators' 2015 home opener on April 1 hosting the Hawks of SUNY-New Paltz at 3:30 p.m. at Robison Field.

GAME #1

The Gators took a 2-0 lead with a pair of runs in the top half of the second inning as with one out sophomore Jess Adams (Moriah, NY/Moriah Central) singled up the middle, followed by a single by sophomore Katy Rimawi (Ballston Spa, NY/Ballston Spa). Rookie Alana Vanderburg (Wynantskill, NY/Columbia) had a two RBI double to score the pair and give Sage the early lead.

FSC answered right back with a pair of runs in the bottom half of the inning to knot the game at 2-2.

In the top of the third inning rookie Alexa Silk (Freehold, NY/Greenville) connected on her second home run of the season and gave Sage a 3-2 lead.

In the bottom of the seventh inning, FSC's Michelle Mongiello had an RBI single to drive in Meagan Anderson who reached on single and sent the game into extra innings.

Playing the international tie-breaker rule, the Gators were unable to score in the top half of the eighth inning and the Rams were able to score as Anderson had an RBI sacrifice fly to win the game, 4-3.

Sage's sophomore Lindsay Brace (Moriah, NY/Moriah Central) took the loss after 1.2 innings of work with one earned run off three hits and drops to 1-5. Junior Katie Kovage (Hoosick Falls, NY/Hoosick Falls Central) started the action as she worked six innings with two earned runs off seven hits with two walks and one strikeout.  FSC's Taylor Tedeschi picked up the complete game win as she yielded three earned runs off eight hits with four strikeouts and stands at 4-4 on the year.

GAME # 2

After trailing 2-0 through two innings, Sage tied the action with a pair of runs in the top of the third inning as junior Morgan Dunn (Cohoes, NY/Cohoes) had a two RBI shot and drove the pair of Gator runners. In the top of the fifth inning, Sage got a pair as Silk connected on a two-run home run and drove in senior Kristen Beikirch (Brockport, NY/Brockport).

The Rams pushed four runs across the plate in the bottom of the sixth inning before the game was called due to darkness.

For the game, Beikirch and Kovage each added doubles, while Silk had a home run, her third of the season and picked up two RBIs. Dunn was 2-3 at the plate with two RBIs for Sage.

Brace worked 5.1 innings with four earned runs off nine hits and took the loss in the circle, falling to 1-6 on the year. FSC's Taylor Webb made the start and worked 4.1 innings with four earned runs off seven hits with two strikeouts. Tedeschi came in the game and worked 1.2 innings with one hit and collected the win to improve to 5-4.
