Troy, NY – The Sage Colleges' softball team hosted the Soaring Eagles of Elmira College in the first round of the 2014 ECAC Division III Metro Softball Tournament. Seeded third, Sage hosted the sixth seeded Soaring Eagles of Elmira College on Wednesday afternoon. Elmira tallied a 2-0 win to advance to the championship round that will take place at Richard Stockton College (Pomona, NJ). Elmira improves to 16-13, while Sage's season ends at 23-14.
Elmira struck in the top of the third inning as with one out, senior Krystal Bupp (Bellmawr, NJ/Triton Regional) walked and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt. Senior Mikayla Bean (Williamson, NY/Williamson) had an RBI single to center field and drove in Bupp. Junior Megan Anderson (Little Falls, NJ/Passaic Valley) had an RBI single down the left line to drive in Bean and spot Elmira to a 2-0 lead.
Senior pitcher Alex Puglisi (Shelton, CT/Trumbull) worked five scoreless innings and yielded just two hits, while striking out nine. She improves to 9-10 on the year. Senior Emilie Rogers (Elmira, NY/Elmira Free Academy) worked two hitless innings and fanned four Gators in the action and earned her first save of the season.
Sage's rookie pitcher Lindsay Brace (Moriah, NY/Moriah Central) worked the complete game and suffered the loss after yielding just four hits with three strikeouts and finishes her freshman campaign with a 3-2 record.
For the Gators, senior catcher Trish Gaulin (South Glens Falls, NY/South Glens Falls) and rookie second baseman Jess Adams (Nassau, NY/Columbia) collected hits. The contest marks the final games for two of Sage's players, Gaulin and 2014 Skyline Conference Player of the Year, Hillary Faas (East Greenbush, NY/Columbia).
Gaulin wraps her career having played in 133 games (No. 3), with 88 hits (No. 14), 335 at-bats (No. 9), and 18 doubles (No. 8) while wearing the Sage uniform. Faas, who rewrote many of Sage's career records, caps her stellar career with 151 consecutive starts (No. 1), 498 at-bats (No. 1), 193 hits (No. 1), 44 doubles (No. 1), 20 home runs (No. 1), 122 runs scored (No. 2), and 130 RBI's (No. 1).
