Gators take two games from Purchase in Skyline action

Purchase, NY – The Sage Colleges' softball team travelled to Purchase College for a Skyline Conference doubleheader on Sunday. The Gators posted a pair of wins, 9-2 and 11-0 to improve to 16-10 overall and 5-3 in the Skyline.

In the first game, senior Hillary Faas (East Greenbush, NY/Columbia) added a 4-5 performance at the plate as she scored two runs and drove in two others. Sophomore Courtney Laughlin (Cohoes, NY/Cohoes) was 3-4 at the plate, while rookie Jessica Adams (Nassau, NY/Columbia) added a 2-4 effort with two runs scored and an RBI.

Sophomore pitcher Katie Kovage (Hoosick Falls, NY/Hoosick Falls Central) picked up the complete game win as she allowed just two earned runs off eight hits with no walks and nine strikeouts. She improves to e8-6 on the year, while collecting 57 strikeouts. She moves into the No. 6 spot on Sage's career wins list with 18 career victories, while standing 6th as well with 118 career strikeouts.

In the nightcap, Kovage added a 2-3 effort at the plate and drove in three runs and added a double, her eighth of the season.

Junior Kristen Beikirch (Brockport, NY/Brockport) scored three runs and was 1-3 at the plate.  She added a stolen base and is a perfect 13-13 on the base paths, while drawing ever closer to breaking the career stolen base record with 46, just three shy of Melissa Roy's record (49). Beikirch is also adding to her active career record for most runs scored as she has 116.

In the circle for the Gators, rookie Erika Daigle (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) picked up the win after working four innings of scoreless ball. She allowed just one hit and one walk, while fanning seven batters. She stands at 7-4 on the year, while leading Sage with her 101 strikeouts. She is closing in on the Sage single-season strikeout mark of 119 in a season set in 2012 by Kelsey Newberg.

Rookie Lindsay Brace (Moriah, NY/Moriah Central) also worked a scoreless inning for Sage and gave up one hit with one walk and two strikeouts against Purchase.

Sage is back in action on Wednesday, April 16 hosting Mt. St. Mary College in a Skyline Conference pair of games. First pitch is set for 3:30 p.m. at Robison Field.
