Gators Splits with FSC as Faas breaks Career Hits Mark

Troy, NY – The Sage Colleges' softball team hosted Farmingdale State College in a Skyline Conference doubleheader on Saturday. Sage honored their two seniors, Hillary Faas (East Greenbush, NY/Columbia) and Trish Gaulin (South Glens Falls, NY/South Glens Falls) prior to the games in conjunction with Senior Day.

Sage took the first game 11-7 and the Rams took the nightcap, 6-0. Sage improves to 14-10 overall, while standing at 3-3 in the league. FSC is 13-11 overall and 6-4 in the league.

In the first game, Faas became Sage's career hit leader surpassing the mark set by Melissa Roy with 170 hits as Faas went 4-4 with four runs scored, four RBI's and two home runs. Faas now has 171 career hits, while continuing to add to other active career marks for most home runs (19), most RBI's (117), most doubles (42), and most at-bats (455).

Sage jumped out to an 8-2 run after five innings and FSC tacked on 5 runs in the top of the sixth inning to pull within a run, down 8-7. Sophomore designated player Katie Kovage (Hoosick Falls, NY/Hoosick Falls Central) went deep with a three run home run in the bottom of the sixth inning to give the Gators an 11-7 lead.

Sophomore Courtney Laughlin (Cohoes, NY/Cohoes) drove in two runs to pace the Gators' offense as they had 11 runs off 11 hits.

Kovage started the game as the pitcher for Sage and worked two plus innings with three strikeouts and two earned runs off five hits, before being replaced by rookie Lindsay Brace (Moriah, NY/Moriah Central), who worked 3.1 innings with four earned runs off four hits and earned the win, improving to 1-0. Rookie Erika Daigle (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) picked up the save after 1.2 innings of with with four strikeouts and two hits.

FSC's junior pitcher Taylor Webb (West Babylon, NY/West Babylon) took the complete game loss after allowing 11 earned runs off 11 hits and struck out four Gators in dropping to 7-4.

Sophomore Meghan Acton (Levittown, NY/Island Trees) drove in two RBIs for the Rams.

In the nightcap, FSC put two runs on the board in the top of the first after making the most of three walks and a hit batter in their first at-bats. They added another run in the second and three more in the top of the sixth to break open the game. Sage left five runners on base in the action and was held to four singles as junior Taylor Tedeschi (Levittown, NY/Island Trees) threw a complete game shutout. She improves to 5-7 on the year.

Daigle started and worked 5.1 innings with five strikeouts and five walks with five earned runs off seven hits. She drops to 7-4. Brace worked 1.2 innings for the Gators and tallied one strikeout in the action.

Sage is back in action on Sunday travelling to Purchase on April 13 for a noon Skyline DH.
