Gators wrap Florida Trip with a split

Clermont, FL – The Sage Colleges' softball team was in action on Friday on the final day of the team's spring training trip. The Gators fell to Oswego State, 7-3 and then beat Anna Maria College, 10-1 in five innings. Sage returns to New York State with a 4-6 record.

Rookie Jessica Adams (Nassau, NY/Columbia) connected for a solo home run in the bottom of the seventh inning but it was not enough to help Sage past the Lakers of Oswego State. Junior Kristen Beikirch (Brockport, NY/Brockport) had a pair of singles and an RBI for Sage as well as junior outfielder Samantha Woitkoski (Troy, NY/Lansingburgh), who also had two singles.

Sophomore pitcher Katie Kovage (Hoosick Falls, NY/Hoosick Falls Central) started for the Gators and went three innings with four earned runs off six hits. She struck out two and walked one, and drops to 2-4 on the year.

Freshman pitcher Erika Daigle (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) also worked three innings and gave up three earned runs off two hits with two walks and four strikeouts. She was replaced by freshman Lindsay Brace (Moriah, NY/Moriah Central), who worked one inning and allowed just one hit with a walk.

Senior short stop Hillary Faas (East Greenbush, NY/Columbia) had two doubles and a single for the Gators, while Beikirch added a triple and a single. Kovage connected for two singles and a pair of RBI's as well. Sophomore Jennifer Onwe (Tarrytown, NY/Sleepy Hollow) added two singles and a pair of RBI's to help the Gators' offense on Friday night

Brace started the game and worked two innings with one earned run off four hits. She struck out two and walked just one. Daigle came in the game to earn the win and threw three hitless and scoreless innings and struck seven in earning the win.

Sage returns to action on Saturday, March 22 travelling to St. Joseph's College (LI) for a 1 p.m. Skyline Conference doubleheader.
