Sage falls in a marathon game, but rebounds with convincing win

Clermont, FL – The Sage Colleges' softball team was in action on Tuesday in Florida on day three of the team's spring training trip. The Gators fell in 10 innings to Penn State –Behrend, 10-7. Sage then bested Lancaster Bible College 15-1 in five innings. Sage is now 3-3 on the year.

In the match-up with PSU-Behrend, Sage's junior Kristen Beikirch (Brockport, NY/Brockport) had a double and three RBIS to pace the offense, while rookie Jessica Adams (Nassau, NY/Columbia) added an RBI with a single. Senior short stop Hillary Faas (East Greenbush, NY/Columbia) had an RBI and a single for the Gators.

For the Gators, freshman pitcher Erika Daigle (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) worked nine innings and gave up seven hits with four earned runs. She walked six and struck out nine in the no decision. Sophomore pitcher Katie Kovage (Hoosick Falls, NY/Hoosick Falls Central) suffered the loss after one inning of work with two hits allowed and two earned runs. She falls to 1-2 on the young season.

Sage's offensive output included the first two home runs of the season as both Beikirch and Faas went deep. Faas added a triple and had three RBI's while Beikirch finished the game with two RBIs. Rookie outfielder Frankie Pearson (Hoosick Falls, NY/Hoosick Falls Central) added her second triple of the season and added a single with an RBI. Kovage also two doubles and three RBI's, while rookie Kelsey Wood (North Dighton, MA/Dighton-Rehoboth) and junior Samantha Woitkoski (Troy, NY/Lansingburgh) had two singles each as the Gators connected for 13 hits on the day.

Kovage collected the win as she worked five innings and is now 2-2. She gave up three hits with one run, an unearned run with a walk and three strikeouts.

Sage returns to action on Thursday facing Richard Stockton College (National Training Center, Clermont, FL) at 9 a.m. and Alvernia University at 11 a.m.
