Troy, NY - The
Sage Colleges softball team opened up their 2009 season with a pair
of wins over Southern Vermont College Wednesday evening at Robison
Field.
The first game of the day marked the inaugural game played on
Robison Field, located behind the Neff Athletic Center. It
only took the Gators five innings to cruise to a 13-5 win.
Sage scored four runs in the bottom of the first inning to take a
4-1 lead and never look back. The Gators were led by
Jen Ahearn (Cohoes, NY) as she went 4-4, hitting
her first home run on the year in the bottom of the fifth, and also
hitting a double. Allison Bishop (Troy, NY)
went 2-4, also connecting on a home run in the bottom of the
fifth. Sara Rysedorph (Troy, NY) recorded
the win for the Gators.
In the second game Sage found themselves down 0-4 in the top of
the third inning, but broke out with four runs in the bottom half
to tie it up. The Gators scored three runs in both the fourth
and fifth inning, to take a 10-6 lead heading into the top of the
sixth inning. Sage held the Mountaineers to just one run over
the final two innings to secure the 10-7 win.
Bishop remained consistent going 2-4,
Rysedorph also went 2-4.
Ahearn recorded her second home run of the day en
route to going 1-3. Kristen Knights
(Chatham, NY) recorded the win for Sage.
The Gators return to the field Saturday, March 28th when they host conference foe Mount Saint Vincent at 1pm at Robison Field.
