Troy, NY - The
Sage Colleges softball team split a double header with Purchase
College winning the first game 10-3, while dropping the second game
4-12.
Melcome Welcome (Cohoes, NY) hit a double in the bottom of the fourth inning to score the go ahead run for Sage, taking the lead 3-2 and held on to win 10-3. In the bottom of the fifth Kellie Jones (Troy, NY) hit a solo homerun to put Sage up 5-2, and the Gators went on to score six more runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to secure the win. Jones, along with teammate Maria Pasquarelie (Amsterdam, NY), finished the game 2-4. Welcome, Sara Rysedorph (Troy, NY) and Ashley Eberle (Delmar, NY) each finished the game 2-3. Jessica Meyers added a 2-2 outing with two singles. Kristen Knights (Chatham, NY) tallied the win for the Gators, allowing nine hits, two earned runs and striking out two.
Purchase used a six run second inning to go up 9-1 on Sage and
keep the distance despite a few attempts by the Gators to make a
run. Allison Bishop (Troy, NY) hit a
solo homerun in the bottom of the third inning, while
Meyers also homered in the bottom of the fourth to
get some offense going for Sage, but it wasn't enough.
Jen Ahern (Troy, NY) went 3-3 for Sage, with three
singles, while Rysedorph and
Eberle each went 1-2. Knights recorded the
loss for the Gators, pitching one inning, allowing three hits and
two earned runs. Welcome relieved Knights in the top of the
first allowing eight hits and seven earned runs, while striking out
two.
The Gators return to the field Tuesday, April 14th at 3pm when
they host Castelton College at Robison Field.
