Sage Softball Falls To Castleton

Troy, NY - The Sage Colleges softball team fell to non-conference Castleton State College Tuesday afternoon at Robison Field.  The Gators dropped both games to the Spartans, 6-7 and 2-10, respectively.

In the first game of the day the Gators found themselves down 1-7 heading into the bottom of the third inning.  But, Jen Ahearn (Cohoes, NY) hit a a single to help two runs cross the plate, and was followed by a two run home run by Maria Pasquarelli (Amsterdam, NY)  to pull Sage within two runs.  Sara Rysedorph (Troy, NY) also hit a double in the bottom of the third inning and then managed to score on a passed ball to get the Gators as close as they would be the rest of the way.  Castleton hung on to a narrow 7-6 lead for the remainder of the game to secure the win.  Kristen Knights (Chatham, NY) pitched a complete game for Sage, allowing 13 hits, seven earned runs and striking out one.

The Spartans used a seven run fourth inning to put away the Gators and cruise to a 2-10 victory.  In the bottom of the third the Gators had two runners in scoring position when Kellie Jones (Troy, NY) stepped to the plate and drove in the only two runs of the game for Sage with a single.  Jones finished the game 1-3, while Jessica Meyers (Cadyville, NY) recorded the only other hit for the Gators en route to going 2-1.  Megan Welcome (Cohoes, NY) recorded the loss for the Gators.

Sage will travel to Long Island this weekend for a pair of conference games, they face SUNY Farmingdale on Saturday and St. Joseph's College on Sunday.
