Sage Drops Opening Games In Clermont, Florida

Clermont, FL - The Sage Colleges (0-2) opened the 2009 season with two losses at the National Training Center in Clermont, Florida Monday evening.

         In the first game of the day the Gators fell to Wisconsin Lutherine College 3-14 in five innings.  Sage gave up ten runs in the opening inning to Wisconsin and was never able to fully recover, after only allowing four run in the final four innings.  The Gators put together a small run in the bottom of the fourth inning as both Megan Welcome (Cohoes, NY) and Jaime Handford (Berlin, NY) made their way across the plate.  Welcome led the way for Sage going 1-2 with a double, recording one of just two hits for the Gators.  Sara Rysedorph pitched a complete five inning game for Sage.

            In the 7:30 game Sage fell to Missouri Baptist 1-13 in five innings. The Gators got on top early Maria Pasquarelli (Amsterdamn, NY) scored on Jen Ahearn's (Cohoes, NY) double in the top of the first inning, which would turn out to be the lone Gator run on the evening.  In the bottom of the fourth Sage was down 1-7, but Missouri scored six runs to put the game out of reach for the Gators.  Leading Sage was Allison Bishop (Troy, NY) going two for three with two singles.  Kellie Jones (Troy, NY) threw a complete fiving inning game for the Gators.

            Sage returns to the field Tuesday afternoon at 130pm to face Pitt-Bradford and then again at 530pm to face Penn State Abbington.
