Sage Softball Picks Up First Win Of Season

Clermont, FL - The Sage Colleges softball team picked up their first win of the 2009 season against Penn State Abington Tuesday afternoon at the National Training Center. 

            The Gators found themselves down  0-7 after the first inning.  In the final six innings Sage outscored Abington twelve runs to four.  Heading into the bottom of the fifth inning the Gators were down 6-11, but they rallied and were able to score six runs to take the lead and hold on for the win.  During the six run inning, Kellie Jones (Troy, NY) hit a double allowing two runs to score and Maria Pasquarelli (Amsterdam, NY) added a single to bat in a run.  Leading the way for Sage was Jones going 3-5 with a double, a single, two stolen bases, and two RBI's.   Pasquarelli went 2-4 with two singles, a stolen base and an RBI.  Kristen Knights (Chatham, NY) pitched a complete seven inning game and recorded the win for Sage allowing six earned runs. 

            In the first game of the day Sage fell to Pitt-Bradford 0-11 in five innings.  Pitt-Bradford used a seven run third inning to put away the Gators.  Leading the way for Sage was Allison Bishop (Troy, NY) going 2-2 with two singles.  Jennifer Ahearn (Cohoes, NY) added the third and final hit for the Gators en route to going 1-2.  Megan Welcome (Cohoes, NY) recorded the loss for Sage after pitching just three innings.  Sara Rysedorph (Troy, NY) finished out the remaining two innings allowing just four runs one of which was earned.

            The Gators have Wednesday off and return to the field Thursday when they face Emerson College at 130 and  Haverford College at 530.
