Yonkers, NY – The Sage
Softball (4-13, 1-4) team split a Skyline Conference double header
with The College of Mount Saint Vincent (13-12, 2-7) on Tuesday
evening. The Gators picked up game one 5-4 for their first
conference win of the season, but fell 1-12 in the second game of
the day.
Sage’s Maria Pasquarelli (Amsterdam, NY) put
the Gators up early in game one as she drove a home run out to deep
left field to put the Gators out in front by a score of 3-0 before
the Dolphins could have an at-bat. The Gators jumped out to a five
run advantage in the top of the third when they scored two more
runs.
Mount Saint Vincent got on the board in the bottom of the third
when Lisa O’Shea scored from second on a sacrifice bunt. That
would be all for the Dolphins until the bottom of the seventh when
they pushed across three runs. The Dolphins would come up just
short however, as Sage starter Melissa McConville
(Loudonville, NY) got a fly out to end the threat.
Kellie Jones
(Troy, NY) and Abigail Badger (Troy, NY) each
tallied two hits for the game and scored twice.
In game two, the Mount Saint Vincent bats came to life as they
pushed across 12 runs on nine hits. The Dolphins went up front for
good with a first inning three-run home run to left center.
O’Shea added a grand slam in the third and the first five
Dolphins to hit in the fifth scored to secure the win.
Leading the Gators was Dacia Shears (Maine, NY)
with two hits on three at bats. Pasquarelli
continued to be consistent with the bat as she went 1-2 with an
RBI.
Sage returns to the field Thursday, April 17th at 5:30 as they host
conference opponent Mount Saint Mary College at Knickerbocker Field
in Lansingburgh.
