SAGE CROSS COUNTRY GATOR OF THE YEAR AWARD GOES TO JARRYD WICK

Albany, NY—The Sage Colleges' department of athletics gathered to recognize and honor the outstanding performances of the 2018-2019 year with the naming of the athletic award winners for the 17 varsity athletic teams. In addition to awarding the Gator Award, for the Most Outstanding Player, the department also named the 2018-2019 Female and Male Rookies of the Year as well as the 2018-2019 Female and Male Athletes of the Year. Sage also selected the Dean Sharon Robinson Senior Male and Female Scholar-Athletes of the Year, which is given to the senior student-athlete with the highest overall grade point average, as well as the Aggie Stillman Perseverance Award.

For the second consecutive year, the Gator of the Year award was handed out to Sage's senior Jarryd Wick (Ayers, MA/E.F. Parker School). Wick enjoyed another successful campaign as the team's captain, who added a 71st place finish at the 2018 Empire 8 Championship. He posted a time of 38:00.68 on the 8 k course and was also selected for 2018 Empire 8 Men's Cross Country Sportsmanship Team. The selection was his second straight posting on the Empire 8 Men's Cross Country Sportsmanship Team.

Head coach David Taranto commented about Wick, "Jarryd is a great example of the dedication and mental strength it takes to be a cross country and a track and field student-athlete." He added, "Though he suffered from multiple injuries over his time at Sage and often was the only male distance runner training, Jarryd never lost sight of his goals. His consistency and strong will kept him on a path to success, which has ultimately led him to strong performances during his track season."

Wick, an accomplished scholar-athlete earned his fourth straight selection to the Empire 8 Presidents' List, while earning his second straight induction into the Sage Athletic Honor Society this spring after also earning a spot on the list in 2017-2018.
