Gator harriers finish third at Green Mountain Invitational

POULTNEY, Vt. – Castleton University posted the two best finishes during the 9th annual Green Mountain College Invitational 8K meet on Saturday afternoon to claim first place overall as a team.

The Spartans led the way, finishing with a team score of 25 points. Johnson State College finished in second spot by posting a team score of 58, while Sage College finished right behind in third place with 64 points.

Castleton's Grandon Smith earned top honors in the meet completing the 8K course a time of 26:31. His teammate Ben Girard was the runner up with a time of 27:17. Third place belonged to Juan Reyes-Alvarez with a time of 27:27.

Johnson's Brendan Walsh took fourth place overall finishing the 8K distance in a time of 27:53 while Castleton's Jonah LaVigne rounded out the top five runners with his time of 28:00.

Scoring in the top three for the Sage men were Zack Funk in sixth and Jarryd Wick eleventh with times of 28:04 and 30:55 respectively.

Rounding out the field for the Gators were Ian Alejandro, Malik McNeish, and Daesean Clay with times of 32:41, 37:16 and 40:42.

Sage is set to travel to the Skyline Championship at Hudson Sports Dome in Milton, NY on Sun., Oct. 25. The men will begin at 1:00 p.m.
