Reyes-Alvarez named to Skyline Weekly Honor Roll

New York, NY –Sage's men's cross country team captain, Juan Reyes-Alvarez (Latham, NY/Shaker) was named to the Skyline Conference Men's Cross Country Weekly Honor Roll for his performance this past weekend at the SUNY-Polytechnic Wildcat Short Course Race.

He picked up a 23rd place finish in 21:08 and helped the Gators to a ninth place team finish with a score of 265, behind first place Oswego State's 39 points.

A returning letterwinner and the program's three-time Gator Of the Year recipient as the team's most valuable performer, was honored last season as the 2014 Skyline Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Year. For Reyes-Alvarez the honor marks his second consecutive Men's Cross Country Scholar-Athlete of the Year honor.

At the 2014 Skyline Conference Cross Country Championships, he became the program's first three-time Skyline Conference First Team All-Star. He posted a time of 29:22.27 to finish in fifth place. On his career, he also finished in fifth as a rookie in 2012 and last year took home third place.

A Scholar-Athlete of the Year Award in each fall sport is presented to the first-team All-Conference performer who carries the highest grade point average (minimum 3.30) for the fall semester in the sports of soccer, cross country, women's tennis, men's golf and women's volleyball. 

He is majoring in business at Sage and is Dean's List student having also earned acclaim as a three-time Sage Scholar-Athlete honoree. Active on campus, he is the president and founder of the Green Club, while also working as a student creative writer for Sage's Athletic Communications office. He is a two-time Sage Gator of the Year honoree for the men's cross country team as the squad's Most Valuable Performer.

The Gators will be back in action on Saturday, September 12 travelling to SUNY-Cobleskill for the Tiger Invitational.
