Sage men's cross country team opens campaign at SUNY-IT Invitational

Utica, NY---The Sage Colleges men's cross country team opened the new season on Saturday competing at the SUNY-IT Wildcat Invitational. On the men's side of the event, SUNY-ESF captured the race with a score of 33 points in a field of 12 teams.

Winning the individual crown breaking his own course record was sophomore Derek Struck of SUNY-It with a time of 19:39 after bettering his mark from last year of a time of 19:53.3.

Leading the way for the Gators was sophomore Juan Reyes-Alvarez (Latham, NY/Shaker) with his time of 20:40 good enough for an 18th place finish for the 6k course. Junior Josh Myers (Ballston Spa, NY/Ballston Spa) picked up a 50th place finish with a time of 23:00.

Senior Cory Alvarado (Shokan, NY/Onteora) finished next for the Gators in 58th place in 24:38, while senior co-captain Bryan Kelly (Warwick, NY/Warwick Valley Central) was next in 63rd place in 25:39. Junior co-captain Taylor McMillen (Wynantskill, NY/Averill Park) picked up 64th place in 25:41 to round out the scorers for Sage on Saturday. Also running for the Gators was junior Anthony Crawford (Bronx, NY/Frederick Douglass) in 71st place in 28:52, while junior James Carroll (Troy, NY/Home Schooled) picked up 73rd place in 29:01.

Sage returns to action on September 7 travelling to Castleton State College for their invitational.
