Sage harriers boast strong day despite poor conditions

Newburgh, NY----The Sage College's men's cross country competed on Saturday at the Mt. St. Mary College Blue Knight Invitational. Union College won the men's race with a score of 53 to win the team title, while Sage posted an impressive sixth place showing with a score of 177 in the 15-team race. Sage finished second amongst the Skyline Conference teams in the race, behind just Maritime College, but ahead of Purchase, NYU-Poly, and SUNY-Old Westbury.

Leading the way for the Gators was rookie Sean Alvarado (Shokan, NY/Onteora) in 15th place in 30:55 on the rain soaked and very muddy course. His older brother, junior Cory Alvarado (Shokan, NY/Onteora) picked up 28th in 31:58.

Sophomore Bryan Kelly (Warwick, NY/Warwick Valley Central) posted a time of 32:01 t take 29th place.

Junior Mesfin Solomon (Albany, NY/Albany) posted a time of 33:29 to take 52nd place, just ahead of sophomore Jason Applegate (Schenectady, NY/Mohanasen) who finished in 53rd place in 33:29.

Freshman Collin Greenough (Southwick, MA/Southwick-Tolland) took 54th in 33:31. While rookie Chris Darrow (Shokan, NY/Onteora) posted a time of 37:44 and finished in 78th place.

Sage returns to action on October 15 when they will compete at the Green Mountain College Invitational.
