Alvarado brothers lead Sage at Raptor Invitational

Annandale-on-Hudson, NY----The Sage College's men's cross country competed on Saturday at the Bard College Raptor Invitational. The Gator men picked up a 10th place finish in the 13 team field. SUNY-Cobleskill won the men's team crown with a score of 34, just edging the Skyline Conference's St. Joseph's College that posted a 35 on the day. Sage posted a 232 and finished in tenth, but was third in the five Skyline Conference teams in the race.

Leading the way for the Gators was rookie Sean Alvarado (Shokan, NY/Onteora) in 24th place in 29:24 for the 8 k race. His older brother, junior Cory Alvarado (Shokan, NY/Onteora) picked up 36th in 30:12. Freshman Jesus Vaquez-Lopez (Latham, NY/Shaker) was next in 41st place in 30:48, while sophomore Jason Applegate (Schenectady, NY/Mohanasen) finished in 62nd place in 32:02.

Freshman Michael Frempong (Ghana/The Taft School) posted a time of 33:06 in his first race to finish in 69th place, while freshman Chris Darrow (Shokan, NY/Onteora) picked up 76th in 35:51.

Sage returns to action in next week when they travel to Boston to compete at the Codfish Bowl at Franklin Field.
