Utica, NY----The Sage College's men's cross country opened the 2011 season on Saturday competing at the Fifth Annual Wildcat Invitational at SUNY-IT. The event was a 6k race and was captured by SUNY-Canton as they posted a score of 50 on the afternoon. Sage, which is in its second varsity season posted a 10th place team finish with their score of 269 for the race.

Leading the way for the Gators was rookie Sean Alvarado (Shokan, NY/Onteora) in 30th place in 22:40. Freshman Jesus Vaquez-Lopez (Latham, NY/Shaker) picked up 46th place in his collegiate debut in 23:39, while sophomore Jason Applegate (Schenectady, NY/Mohanasen) was right behind him in 23:40 to take 47th place. Junior Mesfin Solomon (Albany, NY/Albany) and rookie Collin Greenough (Southwick, MA/Southwick-Tolland) picked up 86th in 29:48, while freshman Chris Darrow (Shokan, NY/Onteora) picked up 89th in 30:14.

Sage returns to action in two weeks when they travel to Bard College for the Bard Invitational on September 17.
