Men's volleyball wraps season in home tri-match

ALBANY, N.Y. –  Russell Sage College's men's volleyball team hosted NVU-Johnson an St. John Fisher University on Saturday in conjunction with the 2023 Senior Day. The Gators dropped a pair of matches to close the 2023 season as they fell in NECC play 3-0 to NVU-Johnson (25-13, 25-20, 25-15). In the nightcap of the tri-match, St. John Fisher University posted the 3-0 win (25-8, 25-13, 25-19) as they move to an impressive 21-6.  RSC wraps the year with record of 6-27 overall and finished league play with a record of 1-7 and missed a spot in the league playoffs.  

Setter Ryan Jennings (North Brunswick, NJ/North Brunswick Township), a graduate student,  wraps his outstanding career as a Gator having broken the career mark for the most sets played (456), the most matches played (139), while finishing second for the most career setting assists (2,714) and second with his 135 aces. His 488 career digs stands eighth best, while he also added 170 career kills during his time on the court.

Senior opposite Deshawn Fleary (Newark, NJ/Immaculate Conception Montclair), also wrapped his time for the Gators after finishing with 77 career aces (No. 17) and 361 digs (No. 11). He played in 86 career matches adding 60 setting assists with 274 kills and 366.0 points along the way.

Senior opposite Elijah Tortorici (Clifton Park, NY/Mohonasen) in his two seasons with the Gators appeared in 161 sets in 62 matches and racked up 265 kills, 338.5 points, 40 total blocks with 51 aces and 186 digs.   

Against NVU-Johnson, Fleary racked up five kills with five digs and had 7.0 points, while Tortorici had six kills and 8.5 points for the Gators.  Jennings had three digs to go with his 14 setting assists in the match.

Against the Cardinals, Fleary added 7.0 points with nine digs and six kills. Jennings had a block assist to go with his two digs and 13 setting assists.  Junior opposite Wylkins Occelin (Brooklyn, NY/John Dewey) had four kills and two digs in the action.
