RSC Hosts SUNY Potsdam and Nationally-Ranked Pride

ALBANY, N.Y. –  Russell Sage College dropped both ends of this afternoon's tri-match with SUNY Potsdam and No. 4 Springfield.

The Gators began the day by falling 3-0 (25-17, 25-14, 25-18) to SUNY Potsdam in New England Collegiate Conference action.

Senior opposite Deshawn Fleary (Newark, NJ/Immaculate Conception Montclair) tallied a team-high six kills.

Junior opposite Wylkins Occelin (Brooklyn, NY/John Dewey) added five kills, while setter Ryan Jennings (North Brunswick, NJ/North Brunswick Township), a graduate student, recorded 12 assists.

Outside hitter Joe Zimmerman, a graduate student, contributed eight kills on .429 hitting, six digs, and four aces to help the Bears (13-11/3-1 NECC) secure their fourth-straight win.

The afternoon closed with Springfield, checking in at No. 4 in the latest NVA/AVCA coaches' national poll, sweeping the Gators to run its winning streak to ten.

The Pride (20-2), which hit .489 as a team, registered 19 aces and had seven players record multiple kills.

Fleary paced the Gators with six kills against the nationally-ranked visitors.

RSC (4-23/0-3 NECC) continues NECC play at Bard on Tuesday at 7:00 pm.


Notes: The Gators are in their second spring with Reid Hartl at the helm…He guided RSC to a spot in the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Championship Tournament in his debut campaign…Seven players returned from the squad…The Gators were picked to finish seventh in the conference by the member coaches…Setter Ryan Jennings (North Brunswick, NJ/North Brunswick Township), a graduate student, and middle hitter Andrew Samson (Queens, NY/Pathways), both graduate students, were voted co-captains…Jennings began the season with 2,157 career assists, second-most by a Gator…Kyle Ray '13 holds the program record with 2,910 career assists…Four newcomers, two from New York, one from Colorado, and another from Texas, joined the program in 2023…RSC swept the NECC weekly awards for the period ending Sunday, March 5…Jennings was selected the Player of the Week, while freshman outside hitter Alexander Bergman (Kremmling, CO/West Grand) garnered Rookie of the Week accolades.
