Gators Drop Both Ends of Home Tri-Match

ALBANY, N.Y. –  Russell Sage College dropped both ends of this afternoon's home tri-match vs. Bard and Regis.

The day started with Bard holding off the Gators 3-2.

Trailing the Raptors 2-1, RSC (3-8) took the fourth set 25-22 before falling in the decisive fifth frame by a score of 15-11.

Middle hitter Andrew Samson (Queens, NY/Pathways), a graduate student, registered a team-high nine kills in the opener.

Senior opposite Elijah Tortorici (Clifton Park, NY/Mohonasen) added eight kills, while freshman outside hitter Alexander Bergman (Kremmling, CO/West Grand) tallied six kills.

Setter Ryan Jennings (North Brunswick, NJ/North Brunswick Township), a graduate student, recorded 24 assists and five aces, while sophomore setter/outside hitter Jack McWilliam (Fishkill, NY/Arlington) elevated eight Bard attacks.

Senior outsider hitter Angel Obergh paced the Raptors (3-6) with a double-double of 25 kills on .333 hitting and 12 digs, and five aces.

The final match of the afternoon saw Regis sweep the Gators.

Tortorici topped RSC with 10 kills, Samson contributed four, while Jennings recorded 19 assists.

Sophomore outside hitter Francesco Buanne led the Pride (4-5), which hit .365 as a team, with 9 kills on .615 hitting.

Looking ahead, RSC hosts Elms on Wednesday at 7:00 pm.


Notes: The Gators began their second spring with Reid Hartl at the helm…He guided RSC to a spot in the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Championship Tournament in his debut campaign…Seven players returned from the squad…The Gators were picked to finish seventh in the conference by the member coaches…Setter Ryan Jennings (North Brunswick, NJ/North Brunswick Township), a graduate student, and middle hitter Andrew Samson (Queens, NY/Pathways), both graduate students, were voted co-captains…Jennings began the season with 2,157 career assists, second-most by a Gator…Kyle Ray '13 holds the program record with 2,910 career assists…Four newcomers, two from New York, one from Colorado, and another from Texas, joined the program in 2023.
