Gators Fall Twice on Saturday

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. –  Russell Sage College dropped a pair of non-conference matches at Saturday's King's College tri-match.

The Gators opened their afternoon by falling 3-0 to Wilson (25-20, 25-19, 25-18).

Junior opposite Wylkins Occelin (Brooklyn, NY/John Dewey) topped RSC with seven kills.

Setter Ryan Jennings (North Brunswick, NJ/North Brunswick Township), a graduate student, dished out 15 assists, while sophomore setter/outside hitter Jack McWilliam (Fishkill, NY/Arlington) recorded 18 digs.

Freshman outside hitter Xavier Webber registered a double-double of 11 kills and 14 digs to pace the Phoenix (1-2).

The host Monarchs hit .474 to sweep RSC in the nightcap.

Senior opposite Elijah Tortorici (Clifton Park, NY/Mohonasen) led the Gators with six kills.  Jennings tallied 13 assists, while McWilliam elevated six Kings attacks.

Junior outside hitter Jared Piontkowski topped the victors (10-0), which totaled 11 blocks, with 11 kills.

Looking ahead, RSC (3-5) visits SUNY Poly on Wednesday at 7:00 pm.


Notes: The Gators began their second spring with Reid Hartl at the helm…He guided RSC to a spot in the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Championship Tournament in his debut campaign…Seven players returned from the squad…The Gators were picked to finish seventh in the conference by the member coaches…Setter Ryan Jennings (North Brunswick, NJ/North Brunswick Township), a graduate student, and middle hitter Andrew Samson (Queens, NY/Pathways), both graduate students, were voted co-captains…Jennings began the season with 2,157 career assists, second-most by a Gator…Kyle Ray '13 holds the program record with 2,910 career assists…Four newcomers, two from New York, one from Colorado, and another from Texas, joined the program in 2023.
