RSC Splits Home Tri-Match

ALBANY, N.Y. –  Russell Sage College hosted Wells and Drew for a Saturday afternoon tri-match and came away with a split.

The Gators opened the day by coming back from a 2-1 deficit to edge Wells 3-2 (25-16, 22-25, 17-25,25-22, 25-13).

A trio of players recorded double-digit kills in the home victory.

Senior opposite Elijah Tortorici (Clifton Park, NY/Mohonasen) led the way with 13 kills. Middle hitter Andrew Samson (Queens, NY/Pathways), a graduate student, added 11 kills, while junior middle hitter Joseph Vice (Schenectady, NY/Mohonasen) registered 10 kills on .368 hitting.

Setter Ryan Jennings (North Brunswick, NJ/North Brunswick Township), a graduate student, tallied 40 assists and seven aces, while sophomore setter/outside hitter Jack McWilliam (Fishkill, NY/Arlington) elevated 17 Wells attacks.  

Senior outside hitter Connor Garvey topped the Express (0-2) with 21 kills on .356 hitting, while freshman defensive specialist Harrison Keena contributed a double-double of 11 kills and 11 digs.

The afternoon closed with Drew sweeping RSC 3-0 (25-6, 25-17, 25-19). 

Junior opposite Wylkins Occelin (Brooklyn, NY/John Dewey), Tortorici, and Samson each tallied four kills to lead the RSC offense.  Jennings distributed 14 assists, while McWilliam totaled 11 digs.

Sophomore outside hitter Jacob Sledz paced Drew (4-2), which hit .349 as a team, with 11 kills on .450 hitting, three aces, and eight digs.

Looking ahead, RSC (2-3) plays at Sarah Lawrence on Friday at 7:00 pm.


Notes: The Gators began their second spring with Reid Hartl at the helm…He guided RSC to a spot in the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Championship Tournament in his debut campaign…Seven players returned from the squad…The Gators were picked to finish seventh in the conference by the member coaches…Setter Ryan Jennings (North Brunswick, NJ/North Brunswick Township), a graduate student, and middle hitter Andrew Samson (Queens, NY/Pathways), both graduate students, were voted co-captains…Jennings began the season with 2,157 career assists, second-most by a Gator…Kyle Ray '13 holds the program record with 2,910 career assists…Four newcomers, two from New York, one from Colorado, and another from Texas, joined the program in 2023.
