Gators Drop NECC Home Opener

ALBANY, N.Y. –  Russell Sage College hosted Endicott in its first home New England Collegiate Conference contest of the spring this afternoon in the Kahl Campus Center.  The visiting Gulls hit .356 as a team to pick up a 3-0 road win.

Senior middle hitter Mikhail Hailu (Saratoga Springs, NY/Schuylerville) (above) topped the Gators with five kills in the NECC setback. Senior opposite Deshawn Fleary (Newark, NJ/Immaculate Conception Montclair) added four kills and three digs, while setter Ryan Jennings (North Brunswick, NJ/North Brunswick Twp.), a graduate student, dished out 12 assists.

Endicott (10-4/2-0 NECC) had three players record five or more kills in the Sunday matinee. Junior right side Spencer Capps led the group with six kills on .667 hitting. Sophomore setter Gavin Emenaker contributed 25 assists and eight digs for the victors.

Looking ahead, RSC (4-17/0-2 NECC) hosts Nichols tomorrow night at 7:00 PM.


Notes: The Gators are making its debut as an associate member of the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) this season…League coaches picked the Gators to finish sixth in the NECC…The spring also marks the maiden voyage with Reid Hartl at the helm of the program…He took over as head coach in October 2021…Fleary and Jennings were the only two players to return from the 2020 RSC team.
