RSC Men Fall Short at #13 Ranked SUNY-New Paltz

NEW PALTZ, N.Y. –  Russell Sage College men's volleyball team was on the road on Wednesday evening at SUNY-New Paltz in a non-conference match. The Hawks recorded a 3-0 win, besting the Gators 25-14, 25-12, 25-20 to move to 14-3 on the year. RSC drops to 4-12 on the campaign.

Senior opposite Deshawn Fleary (Newark, NJ/Immaculate Conception Montclair) added six kills with three digs as well as an ace in pacing the Gators. He led the Gators with his 7.0 points, while Junior outside hitter Corey Topple (Hudson, NY/Hudson) racked up 6.0 points with five kills and five digs.

Setter Ryan Jennings (North Brunswick, NJ/North Brunswick Twp.), a graduate student, had a team-best 11 setting assists while racking up six digs. Jennings is second all-time with his 1,948 career setting assists and now has 252 on the season.

Freshman defensive specialist Camden Knight (Burnt Hills, NY/Burnt Hills), who was named the Empire 8 Conference and the New England Collegiate Conference Rookie of the Week on Monday, tallied six digs as well in the contest. Knight has a team-leading 106 digs on the year as well.

Senior middle hitter Mikhail Hailu (Saratoga Springs, NY/Schuylerville) had a solo block along with an ace as well for RSC.

SUNY New Paltz, winners of nine-straight contests, is now 8-0 at home and is ranked 13th in the latest AVCA Division III poll. Tim Drake had a .500 hitting percentage while leading all performers with his 10 kills and 11.0 points. Nathan Petrik had 10.0 points along with seven kills, three aces and five digs. Cam Clark picked up 28 setting assists along with five digs for the Hawks.

Looking ahead, RSC plays at Bard on Friday at 7:00 PM.

Notes:  Freshman defensive specialist Camden Knight was named the men's volleyball Rookie of the Week by the New England Collegiate Conference and Empire 8 Conference on Monday...He registered 20 digs, 2.86 per-set, across two matches last week.
