Gators Upended by SUNY Poly

ALBANY, N.Y. –  Russell Sage College dropped tonight's non-conference match 3-0 to visiting SUNY Poly.

Senior opposite Deshawn Fleary (Newark, NJ/Immaculate Conception Montclair) (above) led the Gators with seven kills, while senior middle hitter Mikhail Hailu (Saratoga Springs, NY/Schuylerville) added four kills on .429 hitting and four total blocks. 

Setter Ryan Jennings (North Brunswick, NJ/North Brunswick Twp.), a graduate student, contributed 16 assists and six digs, while freshman libero Camden Knight (Burnt Hills, NY/Burnt Hills) elevated 10 Wildcat attacks.

SUNY Poly (3-10), which hit. 271 as a team, had three players record seven or more kills in the sweep.  Senior middle hitter Matthew Russo topped the group with 13 kills on .524 hitting. Junior setter Nathan Farnham distributed 35 assists, while junior outside hitter registered seven kills on .333 hitting and eight digs.

RSC (4-11) plays next on Wednesday at SUNY New Paltz. The non-conference game is slated for 7:00 PM.


Notes: The Gators went almost 700 days without playing due to the COVID-19 pandemic…RSC is making its debut as an associate member of the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) this season…League coaches picked the Gators to finish sixth in the NECC…The spring also marks the maiden voyage with Reid Hartl at the helm of the program…He took over as head coach in October 2021…Fleary and Jennings were the only two players that returned from the 2020 RSC team.
