Sanders has a big night as Sage bests Regis, 3-0

Albany, NY–Sage's men's volleyball team returned home on Wednesday night to host Regis College in a non-conference match. The Gators posted a 3-0 win (25-22, 25-16, 25-22) and are now 4-11 on the year. Regis drops to 3-10.

Senior middle hitter Scott Sanders (Los Angeles, CA/Taft) collected a team-best 15 points after adding seven kills with a .545 attack percentage to go with his five aces, two digs and four total blocks. Sage senior middle hitter Shane Wenz (Valatie, NY/Ichabod Crane) had 13 kills as well with a .393 attack percentage with 14.0 points with four digs and a pair of block assists. Senior captain Jarod Martel (Albany, NY/Colonie Central) connected for 10 kills with a .316 attack percentage with six digs and finished with 10.5 points. 

Junior setter Ryan Jennings (North Brunswick, NJ/North Brunswick Township) added 27 setting assists with a pair of digs and three block assists. Sophomore opposite Deshawn Fleary (Newark, NJ/Immaculate Conception Montclair) had 11 digs for Sage with a kill, an ace and a block assist.

Sage's 2020 team members are continuing their climb in the program's career record book. Sanders is now seventh in career kills with 456 kills, while also stand fourth in block assists with 110. He is sixth with 142 career total blocks, while ranking eighth in career points with 584.0 points.

Wenz stands fifth in career kills with 582 and is also fifth in points with 755.0. He is third in solo blocks (51), third in block assists (146) and third in total blocks (197), while also now ranking 10th with his 309 digs. Jennings is second with his 1,495 career setting assists. 

Sage will be in action on February 22 hosting St. John Fisher College at 11 a.m. in a UVC and Empire 8 match in Kahl Gym. Sage will be giving away Sage Gator Tech Wallets to the first 40 fans in attendance at Saturday's match.
