No. 4 NYU hands Sage tough UVC loss

Brooklyn, NY–Ranked No. 4 in the latest AVCA poll, the Violets of New York University posted a 3-0 win (25-21, 25-13, 25-16) over Sage in UVC play on Wednesday night. With the win, NYU is now 7-0, while Sage drops to 3-11 and 0-2 in the UVC.

Sage senior middle hitter Shane Wenz (Valatie, NY/Ichabod Crane) had 13 kills as well with a .400 attack percentage with 14.0 points to lead Sage, while adding three digs with an ace. Senior captain Jarod Martel (Albany, NY/Colonie Central) connected for seven kills with two digs as well for the Gators.

Junior setter Ryan Jennings (North Brunswick, NJ/North Brunswick Township) added 25 setting assists with a kill and a dig. Senior Scott Sanders (Los Angeles, CA/Taft) collected five kills with a black assists and a dig. Junior defensive specialist Dan Mackey (Westerlo, NY/Greenville Central) had five digs in the contest.

Sage's 2020 team members are continuing their climb in the program's career record book. Sanders is now seventh in career kills with 449 kills, while also stand seventh in block assists with 30. He is sixth with 138 career total blocks, while ranking eighth in career points with 569.0 points.

Wenz stands fifth in career kills with 569 and is also fifth in points with 741.0. He is third in solo blocks (51), third in block assists (144) and third in total blocks (195), while also now ranking 10th with his 305 digs. Jennings is second with his 1,468 career setting assists.  

Sage will be in action on February 19 hosting Regis College in a 6 p.m. non-conference match in Kahl Gym.
