Wenz earns Player of the Week status from the Empire 8

Hilton, NY--Sage's men's volleyball team member, senior middle hitter Shane Wenz (Valatie, NY/Ichabod Crane) is coming off a tremendous week as the Gators went 3-1 and he was selected as the Empire 8 Men's Volleyball Player of the Week.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Shane Wenz, Sage, Sr., MH, Valatie, NY/Ichabod Crane

Wenz had a tremendous week, leading Sage to a 3-1 mark. In the first match of the week, Wenz set a Sage single-match record with 27 kills in a win over SUNY-Poly. In addition, he added another 20-kill performance in Sage's win over Wilkes. For the week, he recorded 75.0 points with 71 kills, 34 digs, and 5 total blocks. Wenz averaged 4.73 kills per set and 2.27 digs in 15 total sets played.

On the 2020 season, Wenz is making his play help him make a run at several men's volleyball program career marks.  Wenz is now fifth in career kills with 556 kills. He is third in solo blocks (51), third in block assists (144) and third in total blocks (195), fifth in points (727.0), while also now ranking 10th with his 302 digs.

Wenz is the team's leader in points with 176.5, while also leading the Gators with his 156 kills and 88 digs. In 43 sets played, he has 22 total blocks with a .242 attack percentage.

Sage will be in action on February 12 travelling to New York University for a UVC match with the Violets at 7 p.m.
