Sanders tapped for All-Tournament Team as Sage wraps Cougar Classic play

Dallas, PA–Sage's men's volleyball team wrapped action on Saturday with a pair of matches at the Misericordia University Cougar Kickoff Classic. In the first match on Saturday, the Gators fell 3-0 to St. Joseph's College (LI), (25-22, 25-15, 25-21). Sage then fell to Lasell, 3-0 (25-23, 25-13, 25-21) and is now 0-4 this year.

Sage's senior middle hitter Scott Sanders (Los Angeles, CA/Taft) picked up a selection to the All-Tournament Team for his play this weekend.

Sage vs. St. Joseph's (LI)

Senior middle hitter Shane Wenz (Valatie, NY/Ichabod Crane) led the team with his 13 kills and 14 points after also adding five digs. Sanders added a .273 hitting percentage with four kills, an ace, two solo blocks and a block assist with 7.5 points for the Gators. Junior setter Ryan Jennings (North Brunswick, NJ/North Brunswick Township) added 17 setting assists with four digs, and a block assist and a kill.

Sage vs. Lasell

Sage's senior Jarod Martel (Albany, NY/Colonie Central) picked up a team-best 13 kills with 13 points after adding a .296 attack percentage with five digs and only two reception errors on 15 attempts. Sanders was right behind him with 12.5 points and 11 kills with a .333 attack percentage to go with his block assist and solo block.

Wenz had 8.0 points with seven kills and a team-best 13 digs and no receiving errors on his 15 receptions. Jennings added 31 setting assists with three digs and a kill for the Gators.

Sage will host a pair of home matches this coming week as a former Sage men's volleyball player, Casey Fitzpatrick '18 will visit Kahl Gym on January 23 as the rookie head coach of Adrian College in the Gators' 2020 home opener at 7 p.m. The next night, Sage hosts Medaille College in a 7 p.m. contest in Kahl Gym.
