Vassar posts UVC victory over Gators

Poughkeepsie, NY— The Brewers of Vassar College posted a 3-0 win over Sage in United Volleyball Conference play on Thursday night. With the win, Vassar improves to 7-4 overall and 2-2 I the UVC, while Sage drops to 5-8 overall and 0-2 in the league. The Brewers posted the 3-0 win beating Sage, 25-19, 25-13, 25-12.

Sage was led by the play of senior co-captain Zackery Karl (West Monroe, NY/Central Square) as he had four kills and three digs. Junior Jarod Martel (Albany, NY/Colonie Central) had four digs with a kill and three block assists for the Gators.

Junior middle hitter Scott Sanders (Los Angeles, CA/Taft) added a pair of kills for Sage with a dig and a solo block, while co-captain Mike Basile (Feeding Hills, MA/Agawam) picked up an ace with a pair of kills.

Sage's junior outside hitter Shane Wenz (Valatie, NY/Ichabod Crane) led the Gators with his seven digs and a kill, while sophomore setter Ryan Jennings (North Brunswick, NJ/North Brunswick Township) handed out 11 setting assists with a kill and a dig. Sophomore defensive specialist Dan Mackey (Westerlo, NY/Greenville) picked up five digs for the Gators.

Sage is back in action on Wednesday, February 27 hosting Bard College in a 7 p.m. home UVC contest in Kahl Gym.
