Gators tripped up by Elms, 3-0

Albany, NY— The Sage Colleges' men's volleyball team hosted the Blazers of Elms College on Wednesday evening in a non-conference match. The Blazers posted the 3-0 win to improve to 10-2 after topping the Gators, 25-20, 25-17, 25-15. Sage drops to 5-6 on the year.

Sage's junior outside hitter Shane Wenz (Valatie, NY/Ichabod Crane) led the Gators with his 7.5 points after adding six kills with an ace, three digs and a block assist.  Sophomore co-captain Mike Basile (Feeding Hills, MA/Agawam) picked up six kills as well and was perfect with no reception errors on 13 attempts and added three digs.

Junior middle hitter Scott Sanders (Los Angeles, CA/Taft) had three kills and three total blocks with a solo and two block assists. Senior co-captain Zackery Karl (West Monroe, NY/Central Square) also contributed five kills with nine digs and a block assist.

Sophomore setter Ryan Jennings (North Brunswick, NJ/North Brunswick Township) handed out 22 setting assists with five digs.

Elms had a balanced attack with a combined .407 hitting percentage. Sophomores Jeremy Torres and Jovanny Torres led the Blazers as each had 11 kills. Jeremy added nine digs with a block assist, while Jovanny had five digs and a solo block and a bloc assist to lead the squad with his 12.5 points.

Sage is back in action on Saturday, February 16 at MIT in the team's opening match of United Volleyball Conference play at noon. Elms College travels to No. 1 ranked Springfield College for a match on Saturday at 4 p.m.
