Sage hosts No. 10 ranked NYU in UVC Play

Albany, NY-  The Sage Colleges' men's volleyball team hosted the No. 10 ranked AVCA team, the Bobcats of New York University on Sunday afternoon in a United Volleyball Conference match held at Kahl Gym. NYU collected a 3-1 (25-22, 25-19, 23-25, 25-18) win to improve to 10-7 overall and 3-4 in the UVC, while Sage falls to 8-13 overall and 2-5 in the UVC.

Sage's senior outside hitter Ryan Guyton (Lockport, NY/Lockport) added 12 kills with four digs and a block assist. One day after breaking Sage's career kill mark, Guyton now has 1,063 career kills, while also owning the program's all-time points and aces records. He boasts 190 career aces and 1,343.5 points.

Senior outside hitter Bailey Cecchi (Agawam, MA/Agawam) added six kills with an ace and 8 digs. He also had only two errors on 29 reception attempts for a .935 reception percentage. Cecchi is also climbing the career kill mark with 1,052 kills with 1,235.0 points and 110 aces, all of which are also second all-time performances at Sage.

Sophomore Scott Sanders (Los Angelos, CA/Taft) added eight kills with an impressive .636 attack percentage in the action. He also picked a pair of solo blocks in the match.

Sophomore Shane Wenz (Valatie, NY/Ichabod Crane) added seven kills with a .462 attack percentage with an ace, a dig, a solo block and a block assist for the Gators.

Senior libero Casey Fitzpatrick (Haverhill, MA/Haverhill) picked up a kill with 11 digs. Sage's career dig leader, Fitzpatrick now has 823 digs. Junior Austin Laverty (Schenectady, NY/Mohonasen) added 20 setting assists with two digs, while rookie setter Ryan Jennings (North Brunswick, NJ/North Brunswick) added 20 setting assists with three digs.

NYU's Alex Li added 20 kills in the action with a .438 attack percentage, while Neil Ferraro added 16 kills, followed by 10 kills from Andrew Zhu. NYU had a .383 attack percentage in the match with eight aces including four by Evan Lindley, who also had eight kills and four digs with three block assists.  Matin Bikdeli added 50 setting assists with two aces, four kills and three digs for the Bobcats.

Sage will be back in action on March 24 facing MIT in a UVC match being held at Vassar College at 6:30 p.m.
