Gators collect 3-2 come from behind win over SJFC, 3-2 as Guyton ties career kill mark

New Paltz, NY-  The Sage Colleges' men's volleyball team visited SUNY-New Paltz on Sunday afternoon for a UVC match held at SUNY-New Paltz. Sage came from behind to collect the 3-2 win over the Cardinals. SJFC took the first two sets and the Gators rallied to come from behind winning the match, 3-2 (23-25, 22-25, 25-19, 25-13, 16-14). Sage improves to 8-11 overall and 2-3 in the UVC.

Sage's senior outside hitter Ryan Guyton (Lockport, NY/Lockport) added a team-best 14 kills and with his final kill of the match tied the all-time career kill mark at Sage with his 1,044 kills. He tied the mark set by Dylan Krowicki (2012-2014). Guyton, who already holds Sage's career record for most points and aces, added three aces against the Cardinals with four total blocks, six digs and a team-best 19.5 points in the action. He now has 190 career aces to go with his 1,324.0 points.

Senior outside hitter Bailey Cecchi (Agawam, MA/Agawam) picked up 11 kills in the action with two aces, six digs and four block assists, while sophomore middle hitter Tyler Schnaible (Ballston Lake, NY/Shenendehowa) added seven kills with two aces and three total blocks.

Sophomore middle hitter Scott Sanders (Los Angeles, CA/Taft) added nine kills with a .692 attack percentage to go with his six block assists. Rookie setter Ryan Jennings (North Brunswick, NJ/North Brunswick) added 33 setting assists in the match with six digs.

Senior libero Casey Fitzpatrick (Haverhill, MA/Haverhill) picked up nine digs with an impressive reception percentage, having made just two errors in 21 attempts. Sage's career dig leader, Fitzpatrick now has 803 digs.

Junior Austin Laverty (Schenectady, NY/Mohonasen) added four digs with 13 setting assists in the match as Sage combined for a .318 attack percentage, while holding SJFC to a .142 attack percentage.

Sage will be back in action on March 17 hosting a UVC play date weekend as on Saturday Sage will face No. 2 ranked Stevens at 1:00 p.m. and NYU and SUNY-New Paltz will play at Sage at 3:30 p.m. The weekend wraps with Sage facing NYU on Sunday at noon and Stevens and SUNY-New Paltz will compete at 2:30 p.m. in Kahl Gym.
