Guyton and Sanders honored for their play last week

Rochester, NY-  The Sage Colleges' men's volleyball team had two players honored on Monday afternoon with the release of the Empire 8 and United Volleyball Conference weekly awards.

Sage's senior outside hitter Ryan Guyton (Lockport, NY/Lockport) was named the Empire 8 Men's Volleyball Player of the Week, while sophomore middle hitter Scott Sanders (Los Angeles, CA/Taft) was tapped as the Rookie of the Week by both the Empire 8 and the UVC, marking his third citation on the season he has earned Rookie honors.

For Guyton, the award is the first of the season for the team's senior tri-captain. On Saturday, against No. 1 ranked Springfield College, he recorded his 1,000th career kill and finished the match with 10 kills and 13 points while connecting for two aces with three digs. Later in the same day, he was the top performer with his 15 points in 12 kills with a .304 attack percentage. He also had just one receiving error on 21 attempts for a .955 reception percentage. After Saturday's match, Guyton continues to add to his active career point record that has grown to 1,291.5 points. He stands at 1,018 career kills, which is third best. He also has a career mark with his 186 aces, while he is also climbing the career total block record with 133 total blocks which is fourth.

Thus far on the 2018 season, Guyton has a team-best 174 kills with 214.0 points, while also adding 32 aces. Last week, he added a .315 attack percentage to go with his 28 kills and 34.0 points.

 

Against Springfield, Sanders added five kills with a .400 attack percentage and then racked up seven kills with two block assists as well for the Gators against Rivier College.

On the week, Sanders finished with 16 kills and a .281 attack percentage with six block assists and 19.0 points. Overall, Sanders has 118 kills with an impressive .437 attack percentage with 40 total blocks and 148.0 points.

Sage, which is 7-10 on the year and 1-2 in the UVC, will be back in action on March 10 taking on Nazareth College in a UVC match held at SUNY-New Paltz at 1 p.m.
