Sanders collects Rookie Awards from E8 and UVC for second straight week

Rochester, NY-  The Sage Colleges' men's volleyball team was well represented on Monday afternoon with the release of the weekly awards for the Empire 8 and the United Volleyball Conference players for February 12. Sage's sophomore middle hitter Scott Sanders (Niskayuna, NY/formerly of Los Angeles, CA/Taft) was honored with as the Rookie of the Week for both groups for the second week in a row.

Sanders helped Sage to a 3-1 week and had 32 kills with only three errors on a .518 attack percentage in a 3-1 week for the Gators. In addition to his offensive stat line he added 11 blocks and five digs on defense. Sanders best match of the week came against Penn State-Behrend, where he hit .625 with 10 kills on 16 attempts and no errors. The next day he hit .571 against Keuka with nine kills on 14 attempts.

Overall on the year, Sage is 6-6 on the young season and will be in action on February 17 and 18 opening up conference play with a play date weekend at Bard College. Sage will open their conference play in the United Volleyball Conference (UVC) taking on Bard at 1 p.m. on Saturday and Elmira College on Sunday, February 18 at Bard College at 11 a.m.

Sanders has 90 kills with a .458 attack percentage, which leads the Gators. He also has 18 digs with a team-best 31 total blocks on eight solo blocks and 23 block assists. He is third in scoring with 114.5 points in 39 sets played thus far.
