Guyton Breaks Sage Career point record as Gators split action on Saturday

Erie, PA-  The Sage Colleges' men's volleyball team travelled to Penn State Behrend to compete in a two-day tournament. Sage fell in the first match to Wittenberg, 3-0 (25-21, 25-20, 26-24), but rebounded to take the second match topping Penn State-Behrend, 3-1 (25-21, 25-14, 22-25, 25-21). Sage is now 5-6 on the year and will be in action on Sunday at Penn State-Behrend facing Keuka at 10:30 a.m.  Sage is now 5-6 overall on the season. 

Match # 1

Against Wittenberg, sophomore middle hitter Scott Sanders (Los Angeles, CA/Taft) added 12.5 points after racking up 10 kills with a .409 attack percentage with four total blocks. Senior outside hitter Bailey Cecchi (Agawam, MA/Agawam) collected seven kills with an ace, six digs and just one reception error on 21 attempts. Rookie setter Ryan Jennings (North Brunswick, NJ/North Brunswick) added 14 setting assists in the match with four digs and an ace. Junior opposite Austin Laverty (Schenectady, NY/Mohonasen) contributed 10 setting assists with three digs. Sophomore middle hitter Shane Wenz (Valatie, NY/Ichabod Crane) added six four digs and five block assists. Senior libero Casey Fitzpatrick (Haverhill, MA/Haverhill) led the team with his nine digs and continues to add to his active career record for digs at Sage.

Match #2

Sage took the second match over Penn State Behrend behind the hard work of senior Ryan Guyton (Lockport, NY/Lockport). After sitting out the first match with a touch of the flu, Guyton was back in the lineup and proceeded to break Sage's career point mark. He added 18.0 points in the action after leading the team with 15 kills with a .500 attack percentage. Guyton also added two aces and eight digs and broke the Sage career point record in the match. He has 1,222.0 points and surpassed Dylan Krowicki's 1,212.5 points (2012-2014). Guyton also hold Sage's career aces mark and now has 178 aces.

Cecchi connected for 13 kills with 14.5 points with six digs, while Sanders finished the night with 10 kills and a .625 attack percentage and five block assists. Wenz had six kills with two digs, while sophomore outside hitter Jarod Martel (Albany, NY/Colonie Central) picked up five kills. Laverty added 25 setting assists with four digs, while Fitzpatrick added 13 digs and had a .958 reception percentage after making just one error on 23 reception attempts.  

Jennings added 24 setting assists and six digs for the Gators as well in the match.  Fitzpatrick now has 740 career digs adding to his active Sage career mark as well.
