Gators Sweep in Skyline Tri-Match

ALBANY, NY – Freshman Shane Wenz (Valatie, NY/Ichabod Crane) led the Gators with 17.5 points as Sage took down Yeshiva 3-0 (25-15, 25-14, 25-16) and St. Joseph's – Brooklyn 3-0 (25-5, 25-6, 25-5) Sunday afternoon.

Wenz recorded 11 kills and five blocks while Ryan Guyton (Lockport, NY/Lockport) led Sage in kills with 12 while also chipping in three aces. Jarod Martel (Albany, NY/Colonie Central) tallied 12.5 points on nine kills, three blocks and two aces while Tyler Schnaible (Ballston Lake, NY/Shenendehowa) had 11.5 points on nine kills and four blocks. Rounding out the double-digit scoring for Sage (12-10, 2-1 Skyline) were Zackery Karl (West Monroe, NY/Central Square) with 10.5 points on seven kills, two aces and two blocks along with Chris MacArthur (Ancram, NY/Taconic Hills) with ten points on seven kills and three aces.

Austin Laverty (Schenectady, NY/Mohonasen) led the Gators in assists with 52. On defense, William Rivera (Springfield, MA/Springfield Central) had 10 digs with Melvin Tejada (Springfield, MA/Springfield Central) adding nine of his own.

With his two match effort, Laverty moved into sixth place in career assists. The sophomore passed Cory Gransbury (2011-14). MacArthur also moved up in career aces into seventh place, passing Scott Fitzgerald (2012-13).

With today's two wins, Sage moves up to sixth in the Skyline standings. Kean and Ramapo are currently leading the league at 3-0 and 4-1, respectively.

Sage takes on Mt. St. Vincent on the road Wed., Mar. 29 at 7 p.m.
