Wenz Receives Skyline Rookie of the Week Nod

Week 6 Skyline Release

NEW YORK – Freshman Shane Wenz (Valatie, NY/Ichabod Crane) was named the week six Skyline Men's Volleyball Rookie of the Week Tuesday morning.

Wenz averaged 3.0 kills and 3.28 points over three matches which included two teams in the national top-ten rankings. Against #6 Vassar, Wenz was 9-1-13 hitting line with a .615 hitting percentage, his highest of the season. In Sage's (8-7) dramatic 3-0 win over Johnson & Wales (RI), the middle hitter registered was 12-2-20 hitting line with a team-high .500 hitting percentage. Wenz rounded out the week with six kills against #1 Springfield. The freshman was also a leader on defense averaging 0.56 blocks/set.

Currently, Wenz leads the Gators in blocks/set (0.80) while he ranks sixth in the Skyline. The Valatie native is also ranked 10th in the conference in hitting percentage (.266).

Joining Wenz in Skyline weekly honors was Casey Fitzpatrick (Haverhill, MA/Haverhill). The junior averaged 9.38 assists/set. His 41 against Johnson & Wales are 7th in NCAA Division III among three-set match efforts as well as 2nd in Sage program history. Fitzpatrick is currently 29th in the country in assists/set (8.76) while he ranks 4th in the Skyline.

Sage is back in action tomorrow night as they travel to Wells for a 6 p.m. match.
