Gators fall twice on Saturday to Daniel Webster and #2 ranked Springfield

Springfield, MAThe Sage Colleges' men's volleyball team travelled to Springfield College for a tri-match with Daniel Webster College on Saturday. Sage dropped a tight 3-2 decision to DWC in the first match-up (25-22, 25-22, 20-25, 22-25, 15-8). Ranked No. 2 in Division III in the most recent AVCA Division III poll, Springfield collected a 3-0 win (25-18, 25-12, 25-10) to improve to 23-2, while the losses put Sage at 13-17.

Against Daniel Webster, Sage's sophomore Ryan Guyton (Lockport, NY/Lockport) led the Gators with his 26 kills and had a blistering .400 attack percentage with five aces and six digs. His 32 points in the match against DWC surpassed the previous single-match record of 28.5 points set by Dylan Krowicki (vs. CMSV, 2014). Additionally, Guyton's 26 kills in the contest also tied the single-match kills mark also held by Krowicki (April 4, 2014 vs. CMSV).

Sophomore Bailey Cecchi (Agawam, MA/Agawam) racked up 23 kills and added a .475 attack percentage, while his 23 kills ranks No. 5 all-time in single-match performances. Junior Chris MacArthur (Hillsdale, NY/Taconic Hills) added nine kills for the Gators.

Sophomore Casey Fitzpatrick (Haverhill, MA/Haverhill) tallied 55 setting assists and his performance is the third most-setting assists in a match. He added 10 digs as well, while teammates Cecchi and Guyton both made just one reception error a piece as they had 27 reception attempts.

Sophomore libero Melvin Tejada (Springfield, MA/Springfield Central) had 10 digs for the Gators, while rookie Zachary Karl (Central Square, NY/Central Square) added six total blocks on a solo block with five block assists.

Against the Pride of Springfield, Sage's top performers were MacArthur with his four kills, while Guyton added three kills. Cecchi, Fitzpatrick, and Tejada all had two kills apiece, while Fitzpatrick added nine setting assists with three digs.

Guyton, who last week broke Sage's career ace record, now has 108 career aces and now has 449 career kills which ranks No. 5 all-time. He has also connected for 613 career points which is No. 5 all-time. Cecchi has moved to the No. 4 spot with his 630 career points. He is also No. 3 with 526 career kills after moving ahead of Connor Thompson with 507.

Sage returns to action on March 29 travelling to Bard College for a 7 p.m. non-conference match with the Raptors.
