Gators collect key Skyline split on Sunday

Mahwah, NJThe Sage Colleges' men's volleyball team travelled to Ramapo College for a Skyline Conference tri-match on Sunday afternoon. The Gators dropped a tough 3-0 (25-20, 25-21, 25-19) decision to the host Roadrunners, and rebounded with a convincing 3-0 win over Yeshiva University (25-8, 25-12, 25-16). Sage is now 9-15 overall and 6-4 in the Skyline Conference.

Against Ramapo, sophomore Ryan Guyton (Lockport, NY/Lockport) had a team-best 12 kills with four digs, a pair of aces and was a perfect 14-0 on reception attempts. Sage's sophomore Bailey Cecchi (Agawam, MA/Agawam) racked up six kills with five digs.  Junior Chris MacArthur (Hillsdale, NY/Taconic Hills) added six digs with five kills and a pair of block assists. Sophomore Casey Fitzpatrick (Haverhill, MA/Haverhill) added 25 setting assists with a pair of digs, while junior Anthony Gerace (East Greenbush, NY/Columbia) connected for six digs.

As the Gators swept Yeshiva after taking the second match in the week over the Maccabees, Cecchi racked up a team-best 10 kills and had a .429 attack percentage. He also finished the match with four aces and two block assists to match his nine digs. MacArthur picked up six kills with three digs, an ace and two block assists. Sophomore Melvin Tejada (Springfield, MA/Springfield Central) had four aces to match his five kills and five digs. Gerace had 18 setting assists for the Gators, while adding six digs and an ace.

Guyton now has 94 career aces and is No. 3 all-time on the Gator list, just five shy of breaking the mark set by Kyle Ray (98). Guyton also stands No. 5 all-time in career points with 531, while Cecchi has moved into No. 4 in career points with 546.0 on his career.

The Gators are back in action on March 19 travelling back to New Jersey for a Skyline Conference tri-match at New Jersey City University with Sarah Lawrence College. Sage plays its matches on Saturday at noon and 2 p.m.
