#12 Vassar Defeats Sage 3-1

ALBANY – The Gators took set one 26-24 against the no. 12 nationally ranked Brewers, but it wouldn't be enough as Sage lost 3-1 (26-24, 20-25, 22-25, 15-25) in non-conference action Wednesday night.

Sophomore Ryan Guyton (Lockport, NY/Lockport) led the way for Sage (8-14) with an impressive 19.5 points and 17 kills. Bailey Cecchi (Agawam, MA/Agawam) chipped in 10.5 points with eight kills while Zachary Karl (Central Square, NY/Central Square) totaled eight points and five kills.

Sage's Casey Fitzpatrick (Haverhill,MA/Haverhill) racked up a game-high 31 assists. On the defensive end of the court, Austin Laverty (Schenectady, NY/Mohonasen) and Karl combined for nine total blocks, and leading the Gator's in digs was Anthony Gerace (East Greenbush, NY/Columbia) with ten.

On #12 Vassar's (13-4) end, Reno Kriz had 22.5 points and 19 kills. Quinn Rutledge recorded a game-high .438 hitting percentage with ten kills on 16 attempts. Matthew Knigge and Trey Cimorelli were unstoppable as the net as they combined for 13 blocks.

Sage travels to Ramapo College on Sun., Mar. 6 for a Skyline tri-match featuring Sage, Ramapo and Yeshiva. The Gators are set to play at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m.
