Sage Men's Volleyball Sweeps Tri-Match Play as Gators Win Third Straight

Albany, NY Sage's Ryan Guyton (Lockport, NY/Lockport) totaled 18 kills and 14 service aces in 3-0 wins over Lehman (25-16, 25-15, 25-15) and Mt. Ida (25-13, 25-22, 25-18) Sunday afternoon in nonconference action.

In game one versus Lehman (0-2), Sage (3-5) was led by Guyton and Bailey Cecchi (Agawam, MA/Agawam) with eight points and seven service aces a piece.  The dynamic sophomore duo was followed by Zachary Karl (Central Square, NY/Central Square with 6.5 points on four kills. Cecchi, Guyton and Karl each posted kill percentages over .500 with .600, .583, and .571 respectively. Sophomore Casey Fitzpatrick (Haverhill, MA/Haverhill) tallied a game-high 22 assists.

Defensively, the Gators were led by Melvin Tejada (Springfield, MA/Springfield Central) with eight digs and Karl with 1.5 blocks.

Orlando Vargas led the Lightning with 11.0 points and five service aces and Emmanuel Ortiz with 11 assists.

In game two versus Mt. Ida (1-3), the Gators battled back from a 12-3 deficit in the second set to take the game in three sets. Guyton scored a season-high 17.5 points with 10 kills and seven service aces. The outside hitter was followed by Cecchi with 8.5 points and four service aces. Fitzpatrick tallied 25 of Sage's 28 assists. Tejada and Fitzpatrick each totaled five digs. Karl and Fitzpatrick led with game with 1.5 blocks a piece.

The Mustangs were led by Peter Griffenkranz with 11.5 points on nine kills and Jimmy Wessel with 16 assists.

Sage returns to action on February 6 and 7 competing at the Rivier University Live Free or Die Tournament facing MIT on Saturday and Rivier and Daniel Webster on February 7.
