Marcy, NY–The Sage Colleges' men's volleyball team competed on Saturday on the final day of the 2016 SUNY-Polytechnic Wildcat Invitational. Sage faced Elms College in the first match of the day and then faced No. 4 ranked Nazareth College. Against Elms College, the Trailblazers posted a 3-1 win (25-16, 25-19, 14-25, 25-19). Against the Golden Flyers, Sage put up a fight but fell, 3-1 (25-22, 25-15, 18-25, 25-11). On the young season, the Gators are 0-4.

Against the Trailblazers of Elms, sophomore outside hitter Bailey Cecchi (Agawam, MA/Agawam) paced the Gators with his 13 kills, while adding four digs and two block assists. Sophomore middle hitter Ryan Guyton (Lockport, NY/Lockport) connected for six kills with five aces and had four total blocks, while junior opposite Chris MacArthur (Hillsdale, NY/Taconic Hills) chipped in with five kills, four digs and an ace.

Sophomore Casey Fitzpatrick (Haverhill, MA/Haverhill) led the Gators with his 20 digs in the contest, while rookie middle hitter Tyler Cook (Catskil, NY/Catskill) had four block assists. Rookie outside Zachary Karl (Central Square, NY/Central Square) had five kills in the action.

Against the No. 4 ranked team in Division III, Nazareth the Gators got an impressive 22 setting assists from rookie setter Austin Laverty (Schenectady, NY/Mohonasen). Laverty also contributed four digs. Karl and Cecchi each had seven kills while Fitzpatrick had 13 digs. Guyton picked up six kills in the action for Sage.

Sage will hold the team's 2016 home opener on Wednesday, January 27 at 7 p.m. in Kahl Gym as the Wildcats of SUNY-Polytechnic visit campus. The busy week continues with Sage hosting the Nighthawks of Newbury College on Friday, January 29 at 6 p.m. in Kahl Gym. On Sunday, January 31, Sage will hold a tri-match with Mt. Ida College and Lehman College as the matches are at 11 a.m., 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. in Kahl Gym. In conjunction with the tri-match Sage is holding their Flood the Swamp with White Day and encouraging all fans to wear white and fill the Sage stands with white and possibly win prizes!
